Degenerates, Unlike Regenerates, Do Not Love God & His Law

Most everyone has heard the term “degenerate”, but how many people understand its meaning and full import?  Sometimes, it becomes necessary to define a term by its opposite.  The opposite of degenerate is regenerate.

What is “regenerate”?  A regenerate person is one whose heart has been turned by the HOLY SPIRIT from his/her own autonomous determinations of right and wrong as well as pleasures to one who is subljected to objective authority – one who loves God and seeks to please Him and to obey His laws which are clearly articulated in the historic and properly translated (not a recent manipulation and perversion of) Bible.  (Examples of a good translation would include the Geneva Bible, American Standard, New American Standard Revised, King James, New King James and there are more.)

A degenerate hates God and the Bible and His laws – at least the ones he doesn’t like.  A degenerate can be an absolutely delightful person.  A degenerate could be honest, law abiding, kind, loving, hard working responsible and productive – that is a very real possibility.

It’s also a very real possibility that a “regenerate” person can, at least at points in time, be  dishonest, mean, hateful, slothful and unproductive.  As a regenerate, that person cannot continue in that vein, because he/she will have a conscience (which in Latin “con” means with and “science” means knowledge; in this case of God) that will not allow this sin to last for long.  A regenerate person will never be without sin as long as he/she is living a temporal life.

On the other hand a person can be a degenerate for their entire temporal life, and instead of being a “delightful” person, they can also be intensely offensive and evil.  Some well known examples of degenerates who have risen to great heights, and been acceptable to the masses, would be Nebuchadnezzar, Nero, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, John D. Rockefeller (a deacon in the Presbyterian USA church), Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jeffrey Epstein, William Jefferson Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Barrack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden and many, many more.

Then there are those who are “questionable” as far as what man’s understanding and interpretation might be of them.  For example, consider people like Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.  People like this have what is known in Christian terms as “common grace”, and maybe they are regenerate, and maybe not?  What that means is they may just be delightful “degenerates”.  They embrace much of God’s laws and precepts, and they are not openly hostile to  either the Bible, or the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

So, now you know what a degenerate is and the difference between a degenerate, who no matter how delightful they are, will still die physically and go to Hell to suffer for eternity, and a regenerate who no matter how much they fail, will still die physically, but go to Heaven to live joyfully for eternity.  All of this is according to God’s will, and He does all things for His glory and for His good pleasure, and no man can stay His hand.  As Moses said to the nation of Israel in his last sermon (Deuteronomy 28); “Choose life.”  Choosing life is being a regenerate, and God is in control of that.  If you don’t like that fact, then you are a degenerate.
