The calls to defund police departments across America will have consequences – and they are not unintended. It is well known in third world nations, ones as close as Mexico, that the police are corrupt, and take bribes and property at will. In America, we have what is known as forfeiture laws. Forfeiture laws currently fund a large part of the police department’s budgets across America. They are based upon someone carrying a “large” (subject to interpretation) amount of cash. If they are unable to satisfactorily verify the legal and legitimate source of that money, the police confiscate it. In addition, they are inclined to confiscate cars and other assets, and they tie it to the appearance, proven or not, of the money and assets as being related to illicit activity – usually drug dealing.
The victim of the forfeiture laws usually is unable to get their money back – even with valid proof of the source. Many times they have to settle for getting half their money back. It is obviously legalized crime/theft. If the police are defunded, then the remaining option is for them to enter into organized crime, take bribes and pursue more in the arena of forfeiture laws. None of this bodes well for anyone including all of the leftists protesting in the street.
The reduced budget for police will attract more unsavory characters to the police force, as if there are not already enough. These unsavory characters will be more likely to act in concert with each other and to exert much more force and intimidation upon the general populace. Nobody will like this except for the people at the top who the police will not touch for fear of reprisal. The people at the top will be the 1% – or less. Antifa and other leftist groups will not like this, but by that time, they will not have a voice in the matter.
Additionally, if the police force gets too thin, then the leftist thugs (brown shirts) will start to act independently to intimidate and plunder the populace at will. It is not, and will not be a pretty picture, and Americans need to engage their brains, and exercise the kind of principles that made America what it was up until the 1970’s before things started to decline. America needs a restoration of virtues which are eternal and do not change; honesty, truth, love, kindness, faithfulness, chastity outside of marriage, peacefulness, etc. Forget “values” – they change all of the time, and they are subject to temporary whims of the most vocal of the public.
