1 Corinthians 7:20-24New King James Version
20 Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called. 21 Were you called while a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather use it. 22 For he who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called while free is Christ’s slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. 24 Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.

I don’t believe this verse is talking about physical slavery. We are not to become slave to man, but we are slave to God as we “were bought at a price.” Whether we become physical slaves to man or not, God is the ultimate authority and we serve Him no matter our station in life.

Thank you for responding “B”, and no disagreement with what you say; although to be the ultimate slave to God, we must not become slaves to men who would deny us the ability to formally worship God in church, sing His praises and glorify Him, and proclaim the Gospel boldly and publicly without interference (i.e. First Amendment), and to include things like charity which has been outlawed in some places in America if administered by Christians. Therefore, my disagreement with your assessment is in degree more than in the principle of absolute freedom.
Throughout the ages, Christians have come under persecution and restrictions, and I believe that this Scripture passage is an exhortation to preserve any freedom we’ve inherited such as through the deaths and sacrifices of our Christian founding fathers. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution are statements of purpose and administration of laws, rooted in the Bible, that put government in its proper place and perspective and give us the mandate, ability, right, power, and justification to preserve liberty. Romans 13 is one of the worst applied passages today by well meaning, but poorly informed Christians who know nothing of Hermeneutics and scholarship as well as the full context of the Scripture. Christians are failing to be salt and light any more, and have become dung and darkness instead.
