HEAVEN – SIX THINGS WE KNOW FOR SURE?
1.) Not everyone goes.
Matthew 7:21-29 New King James Version (NKJV)
I Never Knew You
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
John 14:15-24 New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Promises Another Helper
15 “If you love Me, [a]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [b]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
Indwelling of the Father and the Son
19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and [c]manifest Myself to him.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
The doctrine of the Trinity is recognized by a sizable number of professing Christians, and is enshrined in historical Christian literature/commentaries. Therefore, if Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, then He is also the author of the 10 Commandments.
2.) The way we get there is not of our making.
Ephesians 2:8-9 New King James Version (NKJV)
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
It should be duly noted that this writer queried a friend who’s Roman Catholic, and has never exhibited any interest in things Biblical. When asked if he was going to Heaven, his response was “Yes!”. When asked “Why?”, his response was because “I’m a good person.” Well, why would he have any use for Jesus Christ if all you have to do is be a good person? And the logical follow up, is how do you know when you’ve been “good” enough? The following is what St. Paul said regarding the “nature” of man.
Romans 3:10-18 New King James Version (NKJV)
10 As it is written:
“There is none righteous, no, not one;
11 There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
12 They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”
13 “Their throat is an open [a]tomb;
With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;
“The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways;
17 And the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
3.) In Heaven, God rules.
Romans 14:11-12 New King James Version (NKJV)
11 For it is written:
“As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”
12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
4.) In Heaven, all will be captivated by Him and His Glory.
Revelation 4:10-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You are worthy, [a]O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they [b]exist and were created.”
The twenty-four elders comprise the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles
5.) Animals do not go to Heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:21 New King James Version (NKJV)
21 Who[a] knows the spirit of the sons of men, which goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, which goes down to the earth?
6.) There is no thirst, hunger or tears there.
Revelation 7:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
16 They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to [a]living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
