Ignorance Is Bliss; Until…..

…..you find out the cost.

What is the cost of ignorance?  Let’s start with the saying that “Knowledge is power!” which knowledge would be the opposite of ignorance.  Then there’s wisdom which is the opposite of foolishness.

Within that context, it starts to become clear that there are different kinds of ignorance.  Under the Mosaic law, there was a sacrifice for “unknown sins”.  There were also sacrifices for “known” sins. Under the concept of ignorance, there is ignorance by chance (unknown), and there is ignorance that is perpetrated by a willfulness.  In other words, a willfully ignorant person has chosen to remain ignorant (or indifferent) to certain subjects, behaviors and teachings.   Here, we’re dealing with the “known”, or that of willful ignorance.

Now that we have some idea of what our terms mean, let’s apply some understanding and perspective to those words.  First of all, it should be understood that we are all ignorant; it’s just to varying degrees and in different subjects.  Scripture says “…fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge…”  Scripture also says that “…the fool says; ‘There is no God.’ “.  (an example of willful ignorance/rebellion)

If someone chooses to remain ignorant of the intricacies of neurology and brain surgery, that is not necessarily bad, and certainly not wrong.  On the other hand, if someone chooses to remain “willfully” ignorant of the meaning of “love”, “joy”, “peace”, “patience”, “kindness”, “goodness”, “gentleness”, “faithfulness”, “self-control”, “charity”, “honesty” etc., (Galatians 5:22 & 23) then they  have chosen to be ignorant of some of the most fundamental aspects of human behavior that allows a society and/or culture to survive and function in tact, and that is something the hypocrite politicians, while they divide and conquer, would have you believe they support.

What happens when those who choose “willful ignorance” interface with the world/society around them?  You get “hatred”, “depression”, “war and crime”, “short tempers”, “rudeness and inconsiderateness”, “evil”, “violence”, “untrustworthiness”,  “selfishness”, “greed, lust, STD’s, disease, debt, poverty (economic and spiritual) drug use, murder, robbery, theft, fraud, lying,”, “injustice”, “corrupt politics” etc., !  The contrast, and choice could not be clearer, and the blind will never see apart from God’s grace and divine intervention.  “Choose this day whom you will serve.”; Christ or Satan – there’s no other choice!!!

So, what is the cost of ignorance?  Trillions of dollars, tens, if not hundreds of millions of lives, and untold grief and misery!
