Why would you join a group of people if you knew they were guaranteed to suffer?  Why would you join a group the world hates and wants to kill, silence and/or oppress?  Why would you join a group that is guaranteed to struggle through all of life?  Nobody in their right mind would do so knowingly – or would they?

Certainly, nobody who is oriented toward this world and its system would want to join this group of people.  What about  people who have had their will influenced by a supernatural force?  No, we’re not talking about Darth Vader.  We’re talking about the Holy Spirit of God.

Jesus Christ said that the world hated Him first, and it will hate His followers.  The bottom line is that He has the “words of life”, and He provides eternal life in Heaven with Him.  He describes Heaven as “no night there”, “streets of gold”, mansions for us to live in, “all tears wiped away”, a joyful place where God is worshiped constantly, a place where people (souls) of like mind congregate; in other words Heaven – a great place!

On the other hand He describes Hell as a place; “where the worm never dies”, “the flame is never quenched”, darkness, torment, agony, separation from God, terror, anguish etc.  When you think about the contrast, Heaven has to sound like a better place to be.  If you agree, then you must also agree that our short lives on this earth in light of eternity makes the answer to the question “Why would you….?” abundantly clear.

One of the biggest obstacles for people is the doctrine of “election” which in essence states that apart from the work of the Holy Spirit in one’s life/heart, eternity and therefore Hell is inevitable to those whom God does not choose.  Aw, “That’s not fair they say”.  Well, does God have to be “fair”?  He is God after all.  And, remember that without God, there would be no atheists.
