Is There A Difference Between A “Need” & A “Right”?

Constitution

Some people think they need a 54″ flat panel screen TV.  Others think they need a brand new car.  Those “needs” do not comport with the need for food, water, shelter, clothing, and medical care.  A “need” can be in the eye of the beholder.  On the other hand, a “right” is universal and common among all humans because it is a gift of God, and only God can take it away.

Remember God is the author and giver of all authority.  He sets up leaders, and He takes them down.  He uses those leaders to chastise rebellious people.  He also creates the wicked for the day of destruction.  Most importantly, God does all things for His glory and His good pleasure.  His ways are too high for us; who can know them, and His thoughts are too high for us; who can know them?

Therefore, no individual human being’s rights supersede God’s sovereignty and His will.  He does His will no matter what.  According to Scripture, He has a “secret” will which we are not privy to know, and then there is His revealed will which is Scripture and we are commanded to know.  We, as His creation, can only follow His revealed will.  Among other things, under His revealed will, we must expose evil and have no fellowship with it, and of course through numerous examples, and declarations, God defines what is evil.  We must protect and defend our lives and our family’s lives, and as the Scripture says, if we do not provide for our families, then we are worse than “infidels”.

Logic would dictate that part of the “provision”, above and beyond the previously mentioned “food”, “water” etc., would have to include safety from physical harm.  One would have to include in that protection from evil people; murderers, robbers, rapists, burglars, and yes, even tyrants of government.  The book of Romans chapter 13 makes it clear that the government’s duty is to be “…the rewarder of good and the punisher of evil…”  When the government becomes “evil”, then we must defend, flee or hide ourselves and our families in order to protect them.

But, what about the fact that God uses governments to chastise people – His people even?  Now, we are in an area that deals with conscience.  The United States was founded by men who believed in the rule of law.  They wrote a document and agreed unanimously upon it, and the nation was founded under its authority.  We are, of course, speaking of the Constitution of the United States of America.  So, who do we obey as it says in Romans 13?  Shall we obey those who set the standard and the “Supreme Law of The Land” for us, or shall we obey the usurpers of that law?  This writer for one prefers to obey the originators of the Supreme Law Of The Land.

The beginning of the Constitution says that it (that particular document) is the “Supreme Law Of The Land”.  Now, unless this writer is just too dense to understand, that wording means that no other law in the “land” can supersede it and/or neutralize it.  If that is true, and is the case, then any law that undermine’s the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, is null and void out of the chute and does not need to be obeyed.  Let’s get back to providing protection from evil for your family.  What is evil?  We know from Isaiah that there are those who would put dark for light and evil for good.  So, how is evil defined?

This writer would say that evil must be defined objectively, and not by man, who has something to gain if he is in charge of evil doings, and can have the power to tax and regulate, and therefore control people, their actions, and their wealth.  Anyone with at least one half way good eye can see that there’s plenty of room for abuse in that arena, and indeed the abuse has taken place.  Man is sinful, and as such, is known to have pursued power in order to gain wealth without having to work, or at least not having to work as hard as the people from whom he’s taking wealth through taxes and regulations.

This evil activity is the kind that causes civil wars, national wars, world wars, mass murders, involuntary servitude (slavery), poverty, racism, riots in the street, terror, corruption of money etc. etc.  Who, as a sane person, would declare that any of the above actions are not evil?   The people who wrote the Constitution understood from history in general, and the Bible in particular, that man has a proclivity toward evil, and therefore must be restrained.  Thomas Jefferson said; “Let there be no more talk of confidence in men, but let them be bound down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”

So, now we know why the Constitution was written, and that it is the “supreme law of the land”.  The Bill of Rights was the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution, and they were added in order to provide a form of redundancy, clarity  and assurance that people in the future would not be enslaved by a tyrannical (Godless) government.  At this juncture, it is important to note that man’s rights are declared in the Constitution as coming from God, and not just any God, but the God of the Bible, and Jesus Christ in particular.  Note at the end of the Constitution it says (for dating purposes) “in the year of our Lord”!  At this writing, we are in 2019.  The whole world recognizes that year as a demarcation in time.  It is a stamp of God’s on all of mankind to recognize that His Son, God manifested in the flesh, is LORD of lords, King of kings, and God of gods, and that “…every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is LORD!”  In the sense of dating, that prophecy has already taken place – our every reference to time is an acknowledgement of Christ and His Lordship!

Back to The Bill of Rights, and what it offers us as Americans.  We have in the First Amendment, the right to religious belief, and the right to gather, and the right to speak our minds as long as we are not slandering or libeling anyone or inciting a riot. (that qualification is understood by virtue of the broad understanding of Biblical truth and law which was common for the vast majority of people at the time it was written)  We have the Second Amendment which allows us, without any government restrictions, qualifications or limitations, to own (possess) and bear (carry on one’s person anytime any place for any reason) arms (defined in the 1973 Black’s Law Dictionary, which has subsequently been diluted, as “anything a man can pick up in his hands and hurl in anger or self defense.”  Did you catch ANYTHING!?  That would include, much to the chagrin of the tyrants, bazookas, grenades, flame throwers etc. etc., and yes, AR-15’s, machine guns et. al.

It is the Second Amendment that has been declared as the last resort vehicle by which the entire Constitutional guarantees of rights will be maintained.  Therefore, it is this writer’s contention that freedom is not only a need, but a right.  Protecting one’s family, is not only a need, and a right, but a command of God!  Timothy 5:8 “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

As flaccid, ignorant, pusillanimous Christians and “professing” Christians acquiesce to the tyranny (Godlessness) of the state, they are failing to provide protection for their families.  Where do you stand.  Even if you are not a Christian, you must recognize the threat to you and your loved ones if you do not leap to the defense of a free America guided and ruled by objective laws such as the Bible first, and the Constitution second as it was originally written and intended (not including slavery  which is another issue all together!  Think hard, and it may hurt, but not thinking and acting will hurt worse.

Having read this, which is more needful; a 54″ flat panel TV, or adherence by our leaders to the “Supreme Law Of The Land” – the Constitution?  And which is really a right verses a need/want?
