This is a ridiculous question if you are an atheist, but for the agnostic and the believer it is something to ponder. After spending a few days in Salt Lake City, it certainly became something to ponder for me. Upon arriving in Salt Lake, the air was so thick with smoke from 80 forest fires in the western U.S., that it affected your breathing, and the mountains a few miles away were obscured from view. While there, the devastation from hurricane Harvey was still in the news and the threat from hurricane Irma was looming large on the horizon. Since then, Irma has taken its toll on Florida. The devastation there will likely exceed $250 billion making it by far and away the most expensive natural disaster in U.S. history.
The Bible says that a sparrow does not fall from the sky apart from God’s will and He numbers the hairs of your head; He knows your thoughts before you think them; He knows your laying down and your getting up; He knows your heart; He holds the waves back from the ocean’s shore and they go no more; He sends forth the lightnings and so on and so on. If the Bible is true, then He certainly sends forth hurricanes and forest fires as well.
If you read the book of Deuteronomy (the 5th book of the Bible), near the end, Moses speaks to the people of Israel in the wilderness, and he tells them they have a choice. They can obey God and have innumerable blessings, or they can disobey God and have just as many or more innumerable curses such as disease, death, destruction and enslavement dozens of different ways. Moses concludes his admonition to the people by telling them to “Choose life!”
In America, we choose death. We choose abortion, euthanasia, alcoholism, drug addiction, filthy disease spreading promiscuous sexual activity, violence in the streets, greedy money grubbing, dishonest “fiat” money, lying, stealing (socialism), pagan Mother Earth worship, and so on. Additionally, in America, we are now persecuting people because they are Christian. U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein recently chided a Roman Catholic judge and said that judge could not judge fairly because of her religion. Scripture teaches that judgment begins in the house of the Lord, but it doesn’t end there.
Is America being judged by God? You’ll have to decide for yourself! Contrary to many a naive thinker, He is not on our nation’s side, but prayerfully, He’ll protect His elect. His elect need to pray fervently for Repentance, Revival and Reformation – the three most important R‘s.
