| Democrats prefer socialism to capitalism by a 26-point margin, a CBS News poll released Sunday found. 58% of Democrat respondents expressed a positive view of socialism, while only 18% felt the opposite. On the flip side, the survey found that only 32% of Democrats have a positive opinion of capitalism, while an eye-popping 50% see it negatively. That gap grows even wider when narrowed down to those with a college degree, as 71% of Democrats in that demographic gave socialism the thumbs up. Overall, the poll found that only 35% of all Americans share these liberals’ socialist views. Republicans could react to these shifts in a couple different ways. Pointing and laughing at the socialists is one option, but like when Democrats spent 2016 calling Trump supporters racists, it would do nothing to change anyone’s minds.
