Americans have confused freedom and rights. You are free to commit suicide, but you don’t have a right to commit suicide. You are free to rob a bank, but you don’t have a right to rob a bank. You are free to tell a lie, but you don’t have the right to tell a lie. You are free to spend other people’s money (welfare), but you don’t have a right to spend other people’s money.
