You hear all the time the rich should pay their “fair” share of taxes. The word “fair” never gets defined. The poor pay around 3%, and the rich pay around 26%. What’s fair about that. That’s the Communist progressive income tax. Then there’s the proposal for a flat tax. Say 10% for everyone. That may be too much for some and a piece of cake for others. Then there’s the “fairest’ of all taxes – the poll tax. A poll tax is a predetermined amount that everyone pays if they are a citizen. It finances the services from which everyone derives benefits – roads, military, police, courts etc. Even Jesus paid a poll tax.
