Let’s make the minimum wage $25 an hour. You say, no that’s not realistic. Well, keep in mind that when you raise the minimum wage for untrained, unskilled labor, then those who are trained and skilled will want proportionately more because they are worth more. An electrician making $22 an hour is worth more than a ditch digger making $12 an hour. If the wage for the ditch digger goes up to $15 an hour, then the electrician is going to want to maintain his position, and will ask for $25 an hour, and that is a reasonable expectation unless you want everyone making the same amount doctors, architects, dentists, ditch diggers etc. If so, then get ready for lousy everything and overpriced to boot with a whole lot of unemployment. As it is, any raise in the minimum wage will drive up the prices of all goods and services while limiting jobs for the young and unskilled. The net result is going to be equal poverty for all but the 1% or maybe even the 1/10%!
