250 Years – Let’s Examine Them!

Signing Of The Constitution

Today, a common mantra from “politicians” is that people shold be able to marry whom they please!

Let’s examine that;

Shall a man be able to marry his ten year old daughter – or eighteen year old daughter for that matter if the age of consent is a factor for some. Yes? No? If “No”, then why not? Who’s to make that decision? Shall a person be able to marry their sibling? Shall a man be able to marry his horse? Shall a man be able to marry his mother? All of these questions sound absurd, and people will just laugh and dismiss you as a nut for asking them.

The amazing thing is that 250 years ago in America, if you asked, virtually ANYONE, can a man marry another man, you would have been received with total disdain and disgust, If you tried in earnest to make a serious case of your point, you would have been tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail, and HERE more graphically – especially if you tried to codify that into law. In fact, until 1962, homosexuality, as a practice, was illegal in all 50 states of the 250 year old United States.

Of course, the influence of homosexuality in America has taken on a great deal of importance and application in America since the 1960’s. Illinois was the first state to decriminalize it, and in 2006 the United States legalized it in all 50 states. In 2004, Massachusetts made homosexual marriage legal. In 2015 the United States made it legal everywhere in America. It’s legal for homosexuals to adopt children and to be Foster parents. In fact there have been laws legislated against Christians being Foster parents.

So, what happened between the 1770’s and the 1970’s? People didn’t change, but moral standards did change; or should we say the elimination of moral standards? Whether it’s the acceptance of irresponsible debt, recreational drug use, sexual proclivities, keeping your word no matter how much it hurts, blasphemy, dishonoring the Sabbath, public profanity, pornography, and the list goes on; we are not the same “people” today as 250 years ago. People can make anything “legal”, but no matter what, people can’t make anything they want right. Some things will always be wrong!

We have experienced tremendous prosperity in 250 years. It has made us become softened toward adversity. We want everything easy with no hard work or sacrifice. Have you ever heard of Caesar Rodney? How many people know about soldiers who under General George Washington marched through the severe winter at Valley Forge with no shoes on HERE! The Founders pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor HERE! Many of the founders lost their lives, many more lost their fortunes, but none of them lost their “sacred honor“!

Does America have this kind of character today? Maybe there are some today, but back then there were many more – enough to achieve freedom and prosperity for multiple generations to follow. Today, the snowflake rules, and a person of character drools!

What did David, the Psalmist, lament in Psalm 11:3 about 3,000 years ago? Has anything changed, or is it just more of the same old garbage (sin) packaged in a different wrapper with the passage of time as an excuse? Has a lazy and/or poorly informed church let us down? Certainly, we cannot blame God for this disaster we face today.
