How do you make moral judgments (deciding between right and wrong)? There are only two ways! The first is based upon what you think, believe or “feel” (subjective)! The second is to use an objective standard that is fixed and does not vary no matter what!
If the former, then does it agree with others; some or all? Probably to some extent it agrees, but there will always be others who disagree in part – even your spouse, parent, boss, best friend, teacher, next door neighbor etc. will disagree with you on some matters. This may be why so many people today avoid discussion of meaningful matters. Today, it seems most people look at meaningful matters very subjectively (how they “feel”), and not objectively (what they are told by a higher authority than themselves).
When someone sets themselves as the standard for right and wrong, not only will they ultimately be exposed for their hypocrisy and inability to live up to their own standards, but they will be disenchanted with life because life will appear hopeless to them once they are exposed.
Hope is available, but with a price. The price was the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and His shed blood for the remission of our sins of which one is subjective feelings ruling us instead of Him ruling us. If your “feelings” rule, be careful. Other people out there have “feelings” that rule them also. There will be a confrontation, and if the other somebody is bigger, stronger, smarter, better connected (has more people on their side), wealthier or more ruthless, then you may suffer and have no recourse against that person.
The U.S. Constitution (a Republic form of government – not a democracy) is rooted in Christianity and designed to protect the weak and the innocent.
