How Do You Feel About…

Do Feelings Rule The World Today?

My first wife said something to me, and I said; “Why do you say that?” Her response was baffling! She said; “Because that’s the way I feel!” My retort was; “Yeah, but I don’t ‘feel’ that way, so how do we reconcile our differences?” At the time, I was a self indulgent non-Christian liberal idiot! So two self indulgent, non-Christian liberal idiots finally split the sheets. This idiot became a Christian and understood the critical necessity of “objective” authority prevailing over “feelings”! Although it’s possible for two, or more, people to “share feelings”, the exact same understanding and intensity of those “shared” feelings may not be, and in fact probably are not, there or exactly the same!

Murder is not wrong because people feel it is wrong, or because the majority say it’s wrong, or some dictator says it’s wrong; no, murder is wrong because GOD says its wrong, and He defines what it is, so there is no doubt on the part of any observer, victims or authorities. God says murder is an individual’s premeditated taking of a human life. Does that eliminate capital punishment? No! The state, according to Romans 13 does not bare the sword (the symbol of justice and capital punishment) in vain. Does that mean you cannot take a life in self defense? No, self defense, and particularly in war, is completely justifiable. You have a duty to defend the lives of yourself and your family and the extension of your family – that being your community or nation. It also doesn’t mean that all killing is murder. You have manslaughter which is the unintentional taking of a human life, and therefore is still punishable subject to the egregiousness of the circumstances.

The bottom line is that running a society on feelings leads to confusion, chaos and injustices. Today, the average person who is motivated to vote in America makes a decision upon a candidate or issue based upon their feelings and a 30 second sound bite. It has led to a chaotic and unjust socitey. According to a recent BARNA survey, most Americans do not believe in objective or absolute truth and morality. How will their differences be reconciled? Better start thinking about that, because we’re not far from emotional anarchy in the streets and Martial Law!
