How To Win An Argument!

Shouting? Maybe – Maybe Not!

Definition of argument HERE!

It should be duly noted that “winning” an argument doesn’t always “settle” an argument! From the beginning of recorded history, man has been fighting, arguing, about something. Ways of winning arguments include, having better rhetoric, more money, bigger guns, stronger arms, louder voices, greater numbers etc. All of those methods have been utilized throughout history to “win” arguments, but with rare exception, they never settled the arguments. All we have to do is look at the Middleast to see thousands of years of arguments that have been won multiple times, but never settled.

The bottom line, in an argument, is that one party (or more) thinks they are right, and the other party (or more) thinks they are right, and they therefore cannot agree. If the disagreement becomes sharp enough, the parties will separate in their relationship and/or association. If it becomes too sharp, then hostitilities (violence and blood shed) become a part of the argument. The argument can be over intangibles like ideas and beliefs, or tangibles like money, real estate and the exercise of power. The argument will be won through peaceful negotiations, or violent confrontation, or possibly a combination of the two. Politics has always been considered the peaceful alternative to war.

The first argument of history was between GOD and Satan with man in the middle to arbitrate. Man chose incorrectly, and the rest is history. We now have, contrary to the vast majority of the world’s opinion, “original sin”! The original sin was unbelief leading to disobedience to GOD! The Bible teaches that GOD cannot lie. Therefore, failure to believe Him is not only a sin (defined as any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, any law of God, given as a rule to the reasonable creature.), but it is foolish.

It is foollish, because GOD presents Himself in the Bible as all powerful, present and knowing which means that there is no way in which you can win an argument with Him. Not only does He win all arguments, but ultimately, He will settle all arguments! If you can, please demonstrate one instance in all of recorded history where man has won an argument against GOD! As Scripture declares, every knee shall bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is LORD! What is there about “every” that people don’t understand?

Man may think he’s won an argument against GOD, but man always suffers the consequences of his actions (the wages of sin is death), and those consequences are always a direct result of failure to obey GOD’s word! Jesus Christ (GOD in the flesh) was the only one to obey perfectly! So, wining an argument is always secondary to settling an argument, and winning/settling should be based upon obedience to GOD and for His glory. Remember Who ultimately settles all arguments!
