Christianity & Liberalism

J. Gresham Machen – Author

There are rare occasions throughout history when someone as prescient as J. Gresham Machen apprears on the scene (BOOK HERE).

His battle with the “Liberals” (I use the term loosely) back in the 1920’s and 30’s actually made the front pages of the New York Times – a then somewhat respectable rag which today would not give Machen even an honorable mention in the religion section (see below links). It was a time when Christianity was, at least by the majority, a respected religion and our nation along with tens of millions benefitted from its laws and principles. This year is the 100 year anniversary of the book he wrote.

Today of course, we have no objective laws or principles – only feel good warm and fuzzy plattitutdes punctilliously purveyed by a plethora of pusillanimous, pompous, pastors, preists and politicians as pulchritude. The material world has supplanted the spiritual world. Evil has been placed for good, and darkness for light. Woe are we; an unclean people!

Machen saw what was coming, and he wrote his book. This writer read his book 30 years ago and was wowed by how prescient it was. This writer is reading the book again, and is even more wowed by what a prescient book it is. Machen could be referred to as a prophet or a visionary, but he was neither. Machen knew the Bible backwards and forwards, and he could plainly see what was coming for America if we did not repent. God will not be mocked!

This writer recommends you read this book, and be wowed as he was. With the turning of almost every page are gasps of “This is happening right now!” “How did he know.” “Right on!” And so it goes. Whether you are a hard core atheist or a true believer in the LORD Jesus Christ, you will not be disappointed, even a little, in the farsighted accuracy and most lucid writing of J. Gresham Machen. He saw it all coming, and it’s here, and more is to come!
