Recently, a Jew named Joey Borgen in New York City was savagely beaten for being Jewish. Now, that’s wrong no matter how Muslim the attackers were. But is it a “Hate Crime”? Let’s consider; have you ever heard of a “Love Crime”? Of course not! All crimes involve some degree of hate. Hate is defined as “to love less”. Christianity calls for us to love our neighbor. Wanting to justify himself, a listener asked Jesus “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus shot a hole in this guy’s thinking by giving the good Samaritan story to him. All crimes are rooted in sin which is ultimately hatred for God. Whether Jew, Muslim, Christian, Democrat, Republican, Independent etc. you better clean up your own and your own community’s act before you clean up anybody else’s.
