When you watch a movie, do you sit back and just want to be entertained and let your mind relax? That’s what most people want and do, and that’s what Hollywood wants you to do so that they can subliminally influence and manipulate your thinking and emotions. Remember that movies are a very powerful propaganda tool. Watch this cartoon example on a pandemic HERE – probably from the time of the Spanish Flu epidemic.

When this writer watches a movie, it is to see what the political, social, and psychological messages are – subliminally woven into the script, the attitudes, the attire, the language, the ideologies presented etc., and of course advertising – watch for that Pepsi can – Pepsi pays for that to be in the film. This writer just watched the movie GIANT, starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and a stellar back up cast including Rod Taylor, Chill Wills and others.

In this 1956 epic film, the following messages were threaded through the story:

1.) Texans are bigots and racist.

2.) Wealthy people are racist, bigots and intransigent

3.) Children who disobey their parents will prosper.

4.) Multi-racial marriages are good (this writer does not object to them, although it was risque at the time and not accepted readily.)

5.) Big oil corrupts people.

6.) You can get something for nothing.

Now, to be fair the movie also portrayed kindness and mercy towards the Hispanic community which was the target of the racism and bigotry. The person showing the mercy was someone from the culture of the eastern seaboard of America, because Texans needed to be taught that – they were not sophisticated enough to figure it out on their own.
