So, you hate religion? What would you say to the proposal that everyone is religious? Let’s consider how people define religion. At the most basic level, religion is a basis of belief with the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. At the higher level, religion incorporates a belief in a supreme and superhuman being known as God. Sadly, there are people seeking power in the name of their “God”. This puts often wicked people in charge of other’s lives. The opportunity for abuse is great, and the abuse is common and can be quite egregious.

That being the case, it is easy to understand why people hate religion. That is justifiable when the abuse and distortions take place. What about a religion that is not run by criminally minded power mongers? Restraint of evil is a major purpose of the Christian religion. Encouraging people to turn from their sin (evil, criminality, bad behavior etc.) is a basic tenet and goal of Christianity.

Christianity is the root and basis for the American Constitution and culture which cherishes and promotes unity of purpose, honesty, private property, high moral standards, mercy, love, kindness, patience, gentleness, faithfulness, free enterprise, productivity and graciousness. There are those who would prefer that we be fighting each other and oppressing each other so that while we get distracted by those circumstances, the evil men who rule this nation will be able to rob us blind of our liberty, morality, property, wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

So, if you hate religion, you must decide which religion you hate, because everyone is religious. Do you hate fake Christianity that has been perverted and twisted? Do you hate Islam which has been perverted and twisted? Do you hate Judaism which has been perverted and twisted? Do you love secular humanism which promotes the wisdom of man at the expense of the wisdom of the ages? Do you love Democracy which is the wisdom of man by majority? If so, is the majority always right? And if so, then what about the minority? Is the minority always wrong? Is it o.k. for the majority to oppress the minority and steal their property and even murder or incarcerate them?

Think carefully before you hate religion. Your hatred may come back to bite you!
