Why Do “Old People” Rule?

Characateristically, rulers around the world tend to be older – at least older than 50, and more often than not in their 60’s and 70’s. Why? Let’s look at a current phenomena; transgenderism. Many young people take the step impulsively and regret it later. Older people are not particularly impulsive because they have had a lot of experience including being impulsive in their youth and regretting it. As a result, you rarely, if ever, hear about an “old person” getting a transgender surgery.

Old people are also “experienced” people. Although it’s not the only way to learn, “experience” is by far and away the most profound way to learn, and in learning that way, if it is good great, but if it is bad, you want to avoid a repitition of the bad experience in the future. Because of their experience, old people have also learned “patience”! Patience prevents impulsive behavior which protects against mistakes being made. Of course, young people don’t see it that way, and they want to move forward much more quickly.

Certainly, on some occasions, young people have good ideas, strategies and methodologies. They should not be ignored, although they should be tempered by old people to achieve a balance in the outcome, and to avoid disasterous results. Young people are often times foolish in their impusliveness where old people are exercising wisdom.

Where does wisdom come from? It comes from the accumulation of experience over many ages, (its best representation is in the Bible). Touch that stove, and it’s hot and will burn you! How many children will go ahead and touch the stove anyway? Many! The burn may be very minor and quickly heal. On the other hand, when a young person impatiently says; “Let’s lower interest rates to 1% now, and the current inflation rate is 10%, that is a bad idea that only historical experience would confirm, and people have written on that as well. It could be devastating to an entire nation bankrupting people and families, and leading to famine and war.

History has been recorded for the purpose of reviewing experiences, and avoiding the painful mistakes of the past. Much analysis goes into the review of historical events and circumstances to achieve a satisfactory outcome. One of the greatest histories ever written is the Bible. What makes it particularly noteworthy is the fact that it addresses a lot of moral issues of which “old people” often lose sight. An “old person” might get involved in debt, adultery, drugs etc., and they will suffer for it. Young people are just as vulnerable.

Old people will rule always because they are able to position themselves with connections, knowledge, experience, and personal wealth which, with rare exception, does not come to young people (save the wealth possibly).
