Some of the signs of a society in serious decay and nearing the end include, but are not limited to, a major fixation on things sexual, and self indulgent pleasures such as drunkenness, drugs, gluttony and materialism.  When people laugh that off, the ultimate price is very high and the pain is intense.  When caution is thrown to the wind, and living with reckless abandon is the norm, a people have given up, and that means the loss of all freedom, and with that all the material wealth that was taken for granted.
